People are often perplexed when I mention Juice Fasting. They hear the word "fasting" and think deprivation. Sure you will be cutting out the food you are use to eating, but if done right you will feel the positive affects and you won't be hungry.
This healing diet is the consumption of fresh pressed or squeezed vegetable and fruit juice. During a juice fast (also known as a juice feast) the person only consumes juice for a period of anywhere from three days to three months, sometimes longer. **
Although sometimes confused with smoothies, a fresh juice is very different from a smoothie. When you make fresh juice, you separate the juice from the fiber. Taking out the fiber gives your digestive system a break and allows the detoxification process to kick in.
Aside from the fruit and vegetable juice, you can also consume coconut water fresh from a young coconut, watermelon juice blended in the blender and strained through a nut milk bag, and Spirulina (or other powdered Algaes) mixed with juice or water.
For variety, try creating your own vitamin water. All you will need is your fruit of choice, a large glass jar, and fresh water. Slice your fruit, add to the jar, pour in the water, put the lid on, and refrigerate......Easy Peasy! Just don't eat the fruit.
You can also add fresh herbs to the fruit or herbs on their own, such as mint for a refreshing drink.
Prepare for your fast.
Possible side effects
Everyone is different and the detoxification ailments you might
suffer depend on the type of lifestyle you live. Smokers, drug users,
alcoholics, sugar addicts, and people with chronic illness might have a
much more difficult time during a fast.
symptoms are normal when fasting, but it is always recommended that you
consult a medical professional to keep yourself safe! Especially when transitioning from a lifestyle of substance abuse and illness.
How you break your fast is just as important as doing it in the first place!
My recommendation is to add in easily digested fruits while continuing on juices for most of the first day of breaking your fast. Usually I would do this by having juice in the morning, a mono smoothie for lunch, and then more juice at dinner. The next day I might have two smoothies, and one juice. The third day I might add fresh fruit and a small salad.
There are differing opinions about the protocol for breaking a fast, but most people would agree that you should not consume heavy cooked food too soon after ending a juice fast. You just did all that good work for internal cleansing, so why ruin it with heavy toxic food.
This article is based on my personal experience with a juice detox. **In matters concerning your health, it is always recommended that you consult a medical professional before beginning any program regarding diet, exercise, or other programs regarding your health and well being. **
